4月23日，ギラード豪首相は，南三陸町を訪問し、避難所で子どもたちにコアラのぬいぐるみをプレゼントしました．
コアラは，子どもたちに大人気です．

オーストラリアの動物園「オーストラリアン・レプタイル・パーク」からコアラの「バンジョー」君がさらわれるという事件がおきました．
匿名の電話により，動物園の駐車場のゴミ箱から「バンジョー」君は無事発見された，とのことです．

「Mammal Keepers at the Australian Reptile Park were met with a major disaster on Monday; Banjo, a precious male Koala had been stolen overnight.

Thankfully, this story has a happy ending, with an anonymous call coming in at 2.08pm this afternoon with a male caller saying the koala had been left in the car park. Staff raced out immediately and found Banjo in a plastic garbage bin with a crate over the top. Upon inspection by Mammal Keepers here at the Park and a Veterinary consultation, our Operations Manager, Tim Faulkner said that "although tired, hungry and a little dehydrated it appears that Banjo has no signs of trauma or any long lasting ailments." Banjo has been returned to his enclosure and is expected to make a full recovery. Gosford Police have received strong leads and are investigating.」
